The Thomas Mann and Marguerite Yourcenar letters of 1955, 1953-1963.

In 1955 Thomas Mann wrote a letter to Marguerite Yourcenar complementing her on her recent play entitled "Electra." Yourcenar responded. The Mann letter (in German) and Yourcenar's draft response (in French) is included in this collection, as is a photocopy of Yourcenar's letter now in the Yale University Library. The transmittal of these 1955 letters to Smith College includes correspondence between Yourcenar and Grace Frick and Margaret L. Johnson of Smith College and contains additional information on this exchange of letters between Mann and Yourcenar.
